This article discussses three important elements that enter into the nation's evaluation of its water resources. First, the common appraisal of where it stands; second, an analysis of trends and prospects in water resources coupled with some of the cautions appropriate to such an exercise; and third, an enumeration of several needs and problems with which it should be particularly concerned.
