The construction of the second Los Angeles aqueduct will complete the third and final phase of a project conceived and begun more than 60 years ago. The first two phases consisted of the original aqueduct and the Mono Basin Extension. The construction of the second Los Angeles aqueduct will achieve the full development of the water resources of the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada in the Owens Valley and Mono Basin regions. This project is an important facet of the ultimate development of the statewide water program.
