Programmed instruction is a new technique in the field of education, a radical departure from classic teaching approaches. It presents the first technologic approach to education. The method's emphasis is placed on the behavior of the trainee at the conclusion of the course. What this behavior should be is detailed in specific language so there can be no misconception regarding the trainee's capabilities at the end of the instruction. A programmed course is prepared for the trainee and tested with trainees; most conventional textbooks are written for the teacher.
