This article discusses the causes of unaccounted‐for water, including: inaccurate master meters; inaccurate domestic meters; inaccurate industrial and commerical meters; unauthorized use through fire lines or otherwise; underground leakage of mains and services; use of water from hydrants; and, leakage which would be uneconomical to repair.
