This article discusses the Long Beach Water Department's (LBWD's) safety program. Program support is discussed at four levels of management starting with the Board of Water Commissioners for the City of Long Beach, California, the executive management level, the performance management level, and the immediate supervisory level. In addition to the support of these management levels, LBWD has two safety committees: the accident prevention committee; and, the employees' safety committee. The duties and purposes of both committees are provided.
