This article discusses the development of a utility safety program by the Arizona Water Company including: an accident report form; a safety program based on the National Safety Council and on AWWA's Manual M3, Safety Practices for Water Utilities; weekly safety meetings based on material in the safety program manual; display of safety posters and materials on bulletin boards; posting danger signs and safety tools such as fire extinguishers at the proper locations; color‐coding, location of electrical switches and fencing; personal safety equipment such as helmets, safety goggles, and first aid training; and, outfitting company trucks with safety equipment and signage.
