This article discusses the importance of water utilities supplying adequate service to their entire area even during peak‐demand periods that are affected by climatic changes (drought), shifts of population and industry, and high costs. In a discussion that follows the article, Victor A. Appleyard suggests that a study of distribution systems should include a discussion of the system during peak loads, and presents five points that need to be considered.
