In view of the status accorded to the turbidimetric procedure in Standard Methods and the apparent popularity of the method, an investigation of some of the variables involved was undertaken and a significantly improved procedure was developed. The results of this investigation cannot be easily summarized and are too lengthy to be suitable for publication. A limited number of copies of a report of this investigation are available from the authors. This article provides a list of the variables that were investigated, and covers the following topics: experimental apparatus; reagents; procedure; calculations; and, precision and accuracy.
