Some communities may eliminate a water shortage by more efficient or more complete use of the existing water supply. To do this, the community must know what proportions of the existing supply are going to the various uses. This article discusses metering the water used by the various consumers to obtain this information, and the importance of maintaining the accuracy of the meters. The article discusses the growth of metering in Wisconsin, and the primary importance of metering in providing a basis for definite and fair billing.
