In an evaporation control study made on Kids Lake, Oklahoma, in the summer of 1956, it was concluded that certain essential data on the effects of hexadecanol on water quality would be desirable. It was observed, for example, that certain types of bacteria appeared to increase rapidly in the presence of hexadecanol; and, it was inferred that the multiplication of these forms could be attributed to the utilization of the evaporation retardant. It was further noted that there was only a slight chemical change in the small lake and that the physical characteristics of the water were not greatly modified.
