This article discusses resources for basic information on distribution system operation, along with the Partnership for Safe Water's new Distribution System Optimization Program. System operators can use this program to determine the optimization status of their systems, identify areas for improvement, and measure the effect of changes made. The Partnership for Safe Water is a voluntary self‐directed performance improvement program supported by six of the largest national drinking water organizations. The program's goal is to help utilities provide a new level of safety by conducting comprehensive self‐assessments and implementing indicated performance‐improvement measures.
