Implemented on about 500 miles of pipe, the asset management approach described in this article represents state‐of‐the‐art large‐diameter prestressed concrete cylinder pipe (PCCP) management. This approach can safely extend the life of PCCP water mains by relying on pipe sections in good condition or with moderate damage and managing risk through isolated repairs and long‐term structural monitoring. The risk associated with each pipe section is updated as structural monitoring results are acquired.
