This article discusses telecommunications installations on water tanks, and how important careful planning is to minimizing the problems that can occur. Issues to consider when a new telecommunications site is in the planning process are presented, including antenna installation designs, the type of paint coating the water tank, corrosion‐free installation materials, and alternative methods for attaching the antenna or coaxial routing components. Issues to consider about tank reconditions are presented, including lease agreements, bringing the tenant into the planning process early on, upgrades related to changing antennas, and specific details of construction and labor involved in the process. The article includes a list of resources published by AWWA.
