This article describes an effort by the Mountain House Community Services District in northern California to evaluate several water treatment processes to meet increasing demand and regulatory guidelines. Criteria for evaluating various treatment technologies is provided, along with treatment concerns, options for expanding the existing plant to 20 mgd, evaluation of interim capacity expansion, and construction. Conventional treatment with gravity media filters and ultraviolet (UV) disinfection was selected.
