This article discusses various meters that can help a water utility account for water pumped through the distribution system and to equitably charge customers for the water they use. Two basic types of meters are discussed, positive displacement and inferential. Specifically, compound, turbine, propeller, and fire‐service meters are discussed. Criteria for selecting the correct meter size is given, along with general rules for commercial customer metering.
