This article discusses the different reactions and results when two residential neighborhoods served by Tucson Water in Arizona were provided with reclaimed water. The article gives a brief background on the water‐conscious community, stresses how committed the community is to increasing the use of effluent as part of its long‐range water supply plan, describes Tucson's reclaimed system, and profiles its customer base. The article discusses Neighborhood A, an older area with one‐acre and larger lots and high outdoor water use and Neighborhood B, Tucson's first “sustainable” community whose covenants required that all outdoor watering be with reclaimed water. The article covers topics that include water rates and savings, customer satisfaction, the time involved to properly manage reclaimed water, and appropriate factors to consider in deciding to use reclaimed water.
