This month's column discusses several programs that are available to help utilities save money through efficient water tracking and use that are funded by the US Environmental Protection Agency's State Revolving Fund program. Those programs include: metering each customer; water audits; use‐based water rates; high water use surcharges; water efficient equipment, appliances, and plumbing fixtures; reducing lawn‐watering time by Xeriscaping; and, using reclaimed wastewater. The article offers several tips on educating the public about water efficiency programs, thus making the programs more successful.
