The “Frog” is the nickname for a gear reduction unit used to open gate valves that eliminates hand and back strain. To operate, set the Frog on the existing vault lid, fitting the female gate wrench part over the square nut on the top of the valve stem. The stem should be an extension from the valve in the vault. Tack weld the Frog to the existing lid. Fit a T‐handle gate wrench over the square nut on top of the Frog and turn it to open the valve. The chain will provide the leverage needed to open the gate valve.
