This article discusses how Charlotte‐Mecklenburg Utilities in North Carolina repaired a leaking mainline tap on a 24‐in. waterline without interrupting service to six restaurants, five hotels, an ice skating rink, and several commercial establishments during a 48 hr. period. The utility made an emergency connection between two existing waterlines with aboveground water service lines to provide all customers with domestic water supply and fire protection.
