This article discusses a 5 step procedure that provides a systematic guide for screening, evaluating, and selecting lead pipe rehabilitation and replacement technologies for site‐specific applications. The available technologies discussed in the article include: open‐trench replacement; replacement on new route; replacement using existing route; slip lining; and pipe coating. The article ends with a discussion of noncontrollable or controllable factors to consider when determining the appropriate technology.
