The “Wilson,” named for the tennis ball that is a critical component, is a simple tool for obtaining a complete and accurate filter core sample from deep granular activated carbon (GAC) filter beds. The Central Lake County Joint Action Water Agency in Lake Bluff, Illinois, developed this device to turn what was once a laborious three‐person operation, requiring lockout‐tagout and confined‐space permits, into a clean and efficient one‐person procedure.
