This article reports that the Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) has found success using conventional bell‐spigot and “bell‐less” ductile‐iron pipe joints for installation by trenchless methods. Due to a proactive pipeline renewal and replacement program, OUC has investigated various trenchless methods to install new transmission and distribution lines, as well as rehabilitate existing lines. The article discusses bore‐and‐jack, horizontal directional drilling, and microtunneling.
