This article discusses the challenge of convincing industrial, commercial, and institutional water users, among the nation's largest nonresidential consumers of water, to cut back on water use. The article explains that the acronym BIG, which stands for business, industry, and government, is commonly assigned to this water use sector. Elements common to various conservation programs are discussed and inlcude: education and awareness; water audits; leak detection and repair; curtailing use; equipment change‐out; and, monitoring.
