This article discusses how increasing numbers of water providers all across the US are seeking regional partnerships. A case study is given of 12 small neighboring water providers in northwest Missouri negotiating contracts with the Kansas City Water Services Department to obtain water supplies. Another case study is discussed where the City of Kearney, Missouri, contracted with the Kansas City district to receive 2.9 mgd of water and to pay about $1.7 million toward the cost of the $6 million main that would permit water to flow across their shared municipal boundary.
