This article describes the diamond‐shaped warning signs required for storing or using hazardous chemicals. Their shape, size, color and lettering/numbering are explained, based on National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) No. 704, Standard System for the Identification of the Hazards of Materials. Also, NFPA No. 55, Standard for the Storage, Use, and Handling of Compressed and Liquefied Gases in Portable Cylinders, 1998 edition, is sited for labeling requirements. A list of resources is given for emergency advice and help when working with chlorine, and nine safety practices from AWWA Manual M3 are listed for the handling and storage of chlorine.
