This article discusses the three purposes of the proposed Long Term 1 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment and Filter Backwash Rule (LT1FBR), which applies to public water systems using surface water or groundwater under the direct influence of surface water. Other topics of the rule discussed in this article include turbidity, benchmarking, and recycling provisions. The AWWA Filter Backwash Recycle Statement is included.
