This month's question asks whether or not replacing meters for a small water system would be worth the expense. The point at which it becomes cost‐effective to replace or repair a meter is a question of the replacement or repair costs, water rates, and the amount of water the customer uses. AWWA has guidelines for accuracy of new, rebuilt, and repaired meters. General considerations for a meter replacement program are listed.
