This question of the month was sent by the water quality manager at a Florida utility, who said that her utility had received numerous complaints from occupants of a high‐rise building regarding a coppery taste in the building's water. The utility staff speculated that the high‐rise building's copper plumbing needed frequent flushing, but the building manager was unconvinced. The water quality manager wanted to know if anyone on the AWWA staff could offer new suggestions regarding the cause of the taste complaints, or at least provide supporting information that might help convince the building manager of the need for flushing. AWWA staff members responded to the inquiry.
