With the passage of the 1996 Safe Drinking Water Act amendments, the US Environmental Protection Agency will require each community water system to provide customers with a consumer confidence report at least once a year. This article lists what, at a minimum, is to be included in the reports and discusses who is encumbered with the financial burden of production. Also touched upon are distribution requisites based on utility size, a basic timetable of USEPA actions, and a listing of the National Drinking Water Advisory Council Consumer Confidence Working Group members.
