This article discusses particle counting as a means to improve the measurement of turbidity in water. It discusses problems associated with turbidity measurement, although it continues to be a valuable tool for treatment evaluation. Additionally, the value of particle counters in estimating log removal of particulates within a specified size range, such as the pathogenic cysts Giardia and Cryptosporidium, is touched upon. The article briefly discusses how particle counters work and the different types of particle counting software.
