Reauthorization of the Safe Drinking Water Act is long overdue. A victim of politics, reauthorization died in the closing hours of the 103rd Congress. In January 1995, the beginning of the 104th Congress, expectations were high that reauthorization would be completed early. Political reality has set in and other priorities have held Congress' attention. SDWA reauthorization now is not expected until spring 1996 or later.
