A critical component of a utility's success is the performance of its maintenance program. The rising costs of equipment, supplies, materials, and spare parts, in addition to the high‐tech nature of modern water treatment and distribution equipment and processes, make a well organized and effective maintenance program a necessity. By following the three simple steps of effective maintenance presented in this paper, any utility, regardless of size, can reduce costs and downtime, maximize equipment reliability, and provide the highest level of customer service.
