The South Bend Water Works, Indiana, insures its customers for service line repairs for a small monthly fee. The insurance, mandated by city ordinance, covers leak repairs from the main to the wall of the building for small lines and from the main to the property line for 2‐in (50‐mm) and larger lines. Leak insurance is advantageous to the customer because it reduces costs and allows leaks to be repaired quickly thus avoiding shutoffs.
