Because steel grating hatch doors are heavy, workers have a tendency to leave them in an open position (creating a safety hazard) or in a closed position (deterring operator duties). Using a counterweight, a lone plant operator can open or close grate doors without risking a back injury. The article lists materials and construction instructions.
