Recent experiences with high filtered‐water turbidity levels have resulted in boil‐water orders for several communities. These occurrences have prompted the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) to clarify the following three requirements of the SWTR: where turbidity samples are to be collected for filtered water systems; when a system is to notify the state and the public of high‐turbidity levels; and backwashing practices.
