Many water treatment plant operators work at facilities that are staffed 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. With this round‐the‐clock schedule, operators must work in shifts to handle ongoing plant operations. Shift work can cause feelings of isolation and alienation between workers and their families. Often, operators are required to work shifts that do not allow a Saturday and Sunday weekend off with family and friends. Detailed in the article is a shift schedule that allows operators every other weekend off.
