When we think of arsenic, an image of a skull and crossbones usually comes to mind. This impression of arsenic as a deadly, potent poison has been reinforced in the minds of the public by mystery writers and movie makers for years. Because this strong association of arsenic with poison exists in most people's minds, the arsenic rule is sure to catch the public's notice. A better understanding of what arsenic is, and is not, is needed to help educate drinking water consumers and to prepare for the revised arsenic rule.
