New and increasingly strict regulations describe performance standards for removing paint from structures such as water tanks. These standards protect both the worker and the environment from lead‐based paints during removal operations. Utilities must make careful and thoughtful decisions about removing lead‐based paint from their water tanks. Although many methods exist, some may be more effective than others, depending on the circumstance. This article highlights several removal methods and concludes with a case history using one of the methods‐the dustless needle gun system.
