In this article, the author discusses the widespread negative response to math. The fact that distaste for math is so widespread indicates that there is something radically wrong with math education in general. The author suggests that there are many factors that may lead to problems in math and the resulting bad feelings about it. However, focusing on success, she lists and discusses the four factors ranked at the top of the list for success in math: teachers, motivation, aptitude, and a good foundation. This article kicks off a 13‐part monthly series addressing operator math.
