Although many questions remain, one absolute fact is that scheduled maintenance of water tanks is necessary to preserve the life of a water tank. Most tanks constructed 10 or more years ago were probably painted with lead‐based paint. Today, systems are facing the challenge of maintaining and repairing these tanks and at the same time protecting workers and the environment from lead contamination. Tips for preventing tank failure are given.
