This article offers an preview of what is expected to be in the proposed radionuclide regulations, due out in June 1991. The exact requirements will not be set until the rule is officially issued. The new rule will specify maximum contaminant levels and goals. Some history of the rule and a discussion of health effects precede the summary of the expected rule. Expectations regarding analytical methods and best available technology; monitoring requirements; ins and outs of compliance; and the requirement that systems prove themselves invulnerable are given.
