The Helix Water District in La Mesa, California, routinely sets up an emergency chlorine leak exercise. Without warning, two members of the emergency response team are given slips of paper that define an emergency chlorine drill scenario. The exercise generally requires the use of the Chlorine Institute's Chlorine Leak‐Repair Kit A or B. Full protective clothing and equipment are also used during these exercises. The exercise is supervised by the senior plant mechanic, plant operations supervisor, or assistant water quality superintendent to be sure that all safety precautions are taken.
