The article discusses problems the City of Jackson, Mississippi, had with cleaning solution accumulating in the valve body. Preassembly of the valve inlet and outlet pipes or mounting the backpressure valve in a vertical position will prevent accumulation of PVC pipe cleaning solution in the valve body. This will prevent blistering of the valve, which led to water hammer.
