In a water treatment plant, the operations and maintenance (O&M) manual contains the instructions that should be read before anything fails. O&M manuals should give an overview of the facility and describe process equipment operations, instrumentation and control, utility operations, laboratory procedures, record keeping guidelines, the maintenance program, emergency procedures, safety information, and guidelines for troubleshooting. Also discussed in the article is the importance of updating the manual.
