A water‐jet eductor is a relatively inexpensive and versatile tool that can be used for a variety of fluid‐ and solids‐moving tasks within a water treatment plant. These uses include: replacing pumps as prime movers of chemical solutions, mixing slurry solutions, moving points of chemical application, adding and dispersing filter media, preventing encrustation of heavy materials or chemicals in delivery pipes, reducing maintenance (the eductor has no moving parts), operating as a sump pump and sludge mover, and operating as a vacuum source in the laboratory. Examples of specific uses eductors have in treatment plants are described.
