This article, which is an excerpt from the AWWA publication, Introduction to Water Treatment, Module 2, Aeration, discusses problems that can occur in the aeration process. Supersaturation, and its attendant problems of corrosion, floating floc in the clarifier, and false clogging of filters, is addressed. Other problems related to aeration such as hydrogen sulfide removal, algae, clogged diffusers, and wasted energy are also presented. A chart of oxygen saturation levels in water is provided.
