This article discusses components of instrumentation systems for distribution systems such as sensors, transmitters, and receivers and indicators. Also discussed are the features and advantages of analog and digital systems. Telemetry systems, which are used to monitor conditions at very distant locations, such as a remote pump station or reservoir, are described. This is part two of a two‐part article on instrumentation and is adapted from the AWWA publication, Introduction to Water Distribution, Module 9, Instrumentation and Control. Part one appeared in the April 1985 issue of OpFlow.
