This article emphasizes the importance of proper lubrication in maintaining motors in peak operating condition. Grease is frequently used as a lubricant because it provides good sealing, it is retained in the bearings, and it permits longer service intervals. Suggestions for selecting the proper grease and for regreasing procedures are discussed. This is a reprint of an article which appeared in the April 1984 issue of EC & M (Electrical Construction and Maintenance).
