The winning entries in the 1984 annual Gimmicks and Gadgets contest included a technique for piping hot exhaust from a service truck to frozen curb stops, a variable‐height valve key equipped with a ratchet handle, and a device for machining motor slip rings in place using discharge valve header pressure to turn the pump as a water turbine. Rules and guidelines for the contest are given.
