A recent innovation in hydraulic valves is the sleeve valve. The sleeve valve has low pressure drop across a fully opened valve, a droptight closure, excellent control characteristics, and simple design with low initial cost and few maintenance requirements. Other basic requirements are met as well. When properly applied, it may offer a lower cost solution to many common valve problems. Design, operation, control features, advantages, and construction materials are described. Use of a hand‐operated three‐way pilot valve in conjunction with a sleeve valve is covered.
